This week we have been exploring our environment. The children have suggested all sorts of activities. On Monday we read ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ and the children decided they would like to go on a bear hunt themselves. They also went on different hunts; a bug hunt, a snail hunt, a caterpillar hunt, a butterfly hunt, a ladybird hunt. We thought about going out of school on a picnic, we might do this next week. The children made books, pictures and maps in reponse to all the things they experienced.
Amirah made a list of things we might need on our hunts. Muqaddas and Maham made brilliant maps and trails for others to follow.
Amanpreet talked about finding bugs and ladybirds. “When we found them we putted them in a jar and drawed them.”
“I been making butterflies.” Aqeela.
‘We been walking around the school and we saw some flowers and leaves.” Ramesha
“I went on a bear hunt and i went through the woods.” Mariam Murtaza.
“I went on a bug hunt and then maked butterflies and then having a bear hunt. We found one spider and one ant.” Imaan Shaffi

Reception went to the park today. We had great fun. We walked all the way. On the way we noticed; bus stops, house numbers, different coloured cars, leaf shapes and colours and all sorts of enviromental patterns. At the park we went on all the equipment. We learnt about pushing ourselves on the equipment to make ourselves go faster. We balanced, climbed and moved around the equipment carefully. We played football and cricket and worked as a team to win the game. We hope to go again soon.

All the children in Reception were asked if they would like to be involved in an exhibition at The Whitworth Art Gallery. The children were excited and became inspired by different artists and responded in a unique way, experimenting with a variety of different media. Together they created wonderful pieces of artwork that they shared their individual thoughts, feelings and stories about. Some of the children’s art became pieces of a jigsaw that was moved around to create a final piece. This will be displayed in the Neverland: Rediscovering Child Art exhibition.

Our artist Sophie has recently arrived in Reception. We were all very excited to meet her and look at her wonderful creations. She has inspired us to think about the collections we saw in The Manchester Museum and we have begun to make our own collections. We have put some of our work in a mini museum that we have built in Blue Room. Please come and have a look soon.

All the children have now visited The Manchester Museum. We all had a fantastic time exploring the different collections. We saw animals, dinosaurs, live reptiles and we also had the chance to explore the exciting discovery centre that contained a range of objects such as a collection of insects, sparkly stones, shells and lots more.
Lots of parents came to help us on the trip, so a big thank you to them and we hope that you had as much fun as the children.
We hope to visit again next term!
